More nap drama

On Tuesday night the girls napped from 3-6pm and I tried waking them from about 4:30 on, but had no success. When I got home from the DSMOM social at 9:30 they were still awake, of course. We tried for over an hour to get them down. They kept getting up, turning on the lights, taking off their pajamas. I was so tired and frustrated. They didn't end up going down until 11:30 pm and I was done. I made a vow that they would not nap on Wednesday and that's exactly what happened. I scheduled 3 different get togethers with my friends and their kids just to avoid the sleep time. By 4:00 they were SO tired, but we managed to keep them awake. Reese fell asleep at 7:30 and Ryan wouldn't go to bed unless I did. I was so tired that I took her to bed with me and we passed out at 8:45. Today they fell asleep on the floor at 3:00pm, but I'm getting ready to wake them up right now. This is such a hard transition for us because I think they need the sleep at some point during the day, but when they get their rest they are up until at least 10pm. I never thought I would say this, but I'm actually looking forward to the day that they can make it through without a nap and being super cranky.

Our busy day

We had a fun filled day today that started off with a playdate at the Cragos house. The girls played with their friend, Amelia, and Sarah & I got to chat and enjoy a nice lunch together. We left around 1:30 and headed home. Both girls fell asleep in the car and I was able to transfer Ryan, but Reese woke up and was ready to play again. Tracy and the triplets came over around 3pm and we played until almost 5pm. After they left we headed to Snip-Its to get a haircut. Their hair was shaggy and bugging me so we went on a whim and I'm really happy with the outcome. I'm still trying to grow out their bangs, but we did a short A-line bob cut and the bangs will hopefully catch up soon. Here are a few shots:

After we left Snip-Its the girls were asking for Taco Bell and of course I said yes. We drove through and Reese asked for a bean taco. Weird, but the drive-thru lady said they could do it. Reese was a champ with the bean taco, and I'm not surprised since she's been chowing TBell since she was 18 mos. old. Ryan had a bean burrito and a side of beans. Hello, fiber! After they finished their Taco Bell they asked if they could go to Rolly Pollies, which cracked me up and made me sad at the same time. When we had dance class at RP on Thursdays we would make a run for the border and then go straight to dance class. I know they associated Taco Bell with Rolly Pollies because we ate lunch there for 9 Thursdays in a row. I'm so sad that Rolly Pollies is closed. They asked when they could go back and that was a hard one to explain.

A tough transition

I think the girls are starting to phase out naps and it's been a pretty rough transition for us. There are days where they can't function without a nap, but they won't fall asleep until late afternoon. A late nap means they are up until at least 9:30 or sometimes 10pm. I'm so tired by this point that I put them to bed and go straight to bed w/ no time for myself. Yesterday Reese didn't nap, but Ryan did. She fell asleep on the couch out of necessity because she was so tired. Reese was asleep by 8pm last night but Ryan was rompin' and rollin' at 10pm because she had her power nap on the couch. I do enjoy the one on one time I get when one is sleeping. I had it with Reese today while Ryan was napping and then Ryan and I had some special moments after Reese went to bed.

Happy Anniversary!

Cory and I celebrated our 3rd anniversary on July 29th. We were finally able to get away this past weekend because my mom was so nice and watched R&R for us. We went down to Tucson and stayed at the Hilton El Conquistador. It was a great weekend with pool time, dining out, reading, and relaxing. It was just what we needed. Below is a self portrait we took. It reminded me of our honeymoon (other photo below) where all we had was self portraits and and photos using the self timer. I love you, Honey! A lot has happened in three years and it's all been so wonderful!!!

Big girl beds

We are in the process of converting the girls' room from a nursery to a big girl room. Last Fall the girls moved from their cribs to twin mattresses on the floor. We had their twin beds pushed together so it was like a big king size bed. This past week we finally got the girls their own twin size bedding from Pottery Barn Kids and broke the beds apart so they could have their own sleeping spaces. Reese loved it right away, Ryan is still warming up to the idea. Below are some photos of their first night in their new beds.

Oh no, Mommy!

I was walking down the hallway tonight in my underwear and Ryan was right behind me. She yelled out, "Wait, Mommy! Your underwear is stuck in your butt! Let me get it out!" I tried to explain to her that my undies were supposed to be that way and she was so confused. She said, "But my underwear isn't stuck in my butt, why is yours?" I didn't really have a good answer. I just laughed and changed into my granny panties so we wouldn't have anymore questions.

It's all about the dress up

I have to say that I have done very little to promote this princess stuff, but I'm pretty sure the girls are hardwired to love this stuff. Lately they have been wanting to dress up in their princess outfits all the time. I don't mind the dress up, but it gets a bit crazy when they want to wear them out & about and also sleep in them. We went to Grandma & Grandpa's house for dinner last week and they wore their fairy outfits. The outfits are SO small. My mom bought them when they were 15 mos. old and that's when they fit. Now they LOVE to play dress up in them.

Look how short these dresses are. They don't seem to care.

It's a good look--the naked bum and butterfly wings. I sometimes wonder what our neighbors think.

Swim lessons

These are not the greatest photos because I shot them through the glass but I wanted to show a few photos of the girls at swim class. We started lessons 3 weeks ago and they seem to be doing well. Ryan enjoys it much more than Reese. There are a few tears from Reese and some leg clinging on me when it's time to get in the water, but once she's in it's great.
